WORLD FOOD DAY
To celebrate World Food Day, I celebrate our dearest northern delicacy, "garau garau". This is one food that people from the south and eastern Nigeria have greatly misunderstood. I saw a video of our dear "garau garau" shared with the intent of mockery and it was followed by diverse comments.
One comment said we eat the food because "we lack money". Another said it is "a recipe for cancer", others do not understand the raw Maggi that goes with this food. Many others who have contact with the north, have praised it.
Now to clear the misconception: This delicacy has no correlation to lack of money or poverty because even the richest of the rich eat this meal.
Secondly, if the meal causes cancer, I bet you we all would have been dead from cancer because this food has been eaten for decades.
Lastly, whatever be the case, learn to respect other peoples food just like you'll love your local foods to be respected because as a nation of diversity, our foods are also diverse.
Remember what they say, "one man's meal is another's poison.
Garau garau is beautiful, it is delicious and a recipe for long life and prosperity.
